Three venues – one intuitive online system.

Svalbard Explorer began as a company focused on guiding tourists into the only operational mine at the time. However, when access to the mine was restricted, they had to rethink their approach. This marked the beginning of their expanded venture, which now encompasses both a tour operator service and the management of two restaurants and a pub in Longyearbyen: Karlsberger Pub, Gruvelageret, and Stationen.

As the General Manager overseeing two restaurants and a pub, Kristin Mork values an online POS system that enables her to manage operations remotely. With Munu Cloud she can access all necessary information in real time from any location, provided she has internet connectivity.  This means all data related to POS and Inventory are readily available in one platform.

A new adventure

The first restaurant that Svalbard Explorer took over was Karlsberger Pub, a local pub that has been a gathering place for Longyearbyen’s locals as well as tourists for over twenty years. Here, the local mining history is preserved as part of the interior, and you can meet new and old friends over a drink.

For an owner with a vision, the next project for Svalbard Explorer was to convert an old collapsed mining warehouse near the Longyear glacier into a restaurant. After many years of hard work, the restaurant Gruvelageret was opened, where the town’s mining history is also reflected through the reuse of materials and objects donated by the local community. The kitchen offers a seasonal menu inspired by Arctic flavors, making a visit here a truly unique dining experience.

Let the staff focus on the guest experience

With an intuitive and fast POS system, a fully integrated inventory system, the staff spend less time on administrative tasks and can focus on delivering the best guest experience possible.

Restaurant Stationen is located in the old local café of the miners, where traditional Norwegian cuisine was once offered. The name of the restaurant pays homage to the numerous whaling stations that were set up on the island during the whaling era of the 1600s and 1700s. Currently, the restaurant provides both lunch and dinner, featuring a menu that showcases a delightful blend of Norwegian home-cooked meals, seafood, and contemporary favorites. Whale meat is also available.

“The fact that Munu has broad industry experience, a system that is easy to navigate, and that we received positive feedback from other customers on their good customer service, was crucial when we were choosing a POS system.”
